Where should you eat when you’re at Folly Beach, SC? Well according to The Post and Courier article, they suggest having lunch at Woody’s which is located at 39 Center Street, Folly Beach (843-588-0088). The restaurant is open from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm daily and on the weekends they are open until 12:00 am. Here is the complete article from the newspaper:

“Certain restaurants simply “fit” Folly Beach.

The best of these places manage to produce tasty, high-quality food and provide good service at the edge of America without losing the comfortable, relaxed, well-worn vibe that people are on Folly to experience in the first place.

Woody’s pizza, now in its third year, is just such a place.

Remodeled since my last visit (which, admittedly, was a while back), the front of the small dining room once housed the pizza ovens (and the rest of the kitchen, I think) and has now become a tiny full bar. At the expense of a few tables, the back part of the room now serves as the kitchen. This was a good move, I think, as the patio outside is the place to sit when possible. From the patio tables, life passes by a few feet away on the main drag, making it a fine spot when weather allows.

Pizza can be had by the slice ($2 plus 25 cents per topping) and by whole pie ($8.99 plus $1 per topping for 14-inch; $11.99 plus $1.25 per topping for 18-inch), with five “specialty pizzas,” plus (naturally) build-your-own options from a large list of ingredients.

My “The Woody” pie (14-inch, $14; 18-inch, $18) was loaded with pepperoni, sausage, meatball chunks, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, and green and black olives. I love the inclusion of “real olives,” pitted calamatas that in no way resemble the flavorless pencil-eraser variety lesser establishments often resort to. I did wish the meatballs had been the larger, thin-sliced variety I’ve seen elsewhere. Nonetheless, overall, an excellent pizza.

Also of note was a simple but tasty House Salad ($3.95), which I shared. This served us both well, with leafy Romaine lettuce, a bunch of other vegetables and a nicely sweet and tangy balsamic vinaigrette. Likewise, a “Goodfella” sub ($6.95) was quite good, layered with ham, prosciutto, provolone and pepperoni.

The service is attentive yet laid-back, the scene quite hip and pleasant, and on a nice day, hours slip away on the patio like so many pints of Anchor Steam.

Woody’s success on Folly Beach is due to a combination of all these things, making it a fixture on Center Street that’s likely to be here for years to come. Remember, if you can’t make it there, the place delivers, too.”
