Ellis Creek Bridge (Folly Beach, SC) To Be Replaced
on March 25th, 2007 at 7:35 amPosted In: Uncategorized
The link between Folly and James Island is the four-lane Ellis Creek Bridge built in the 1940s. Only a few hundred feet long, this bridge literally is the only way in and out of Folly Beach besides a boat. The bridge is in need of replacement and next year, in November, a new bridge will be complete. A new four-lane bridge (12 ft lanes) with two bike lanes (each 4 ft) and 2 pedestrian lanes (each 66 inches) as well as a median lane (15 ft) for emergency access will be built. Work on the new bridge began last week. The $8 million dollar project isn’t suppose to disrupt the traffic. Source: Post & Courier
