There are 39 species of sharks in South Carolina, some of them freely seen in Folly Beach. However, the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (operators of oceanfront parks in Folly Beach) claims that there is no trend in shark attacks in Folly. It has been more than a century ago since the last fatal shark attack reported. An attack is told to be provoked, and being hit by lightning is even more likely than a shark attack. Lifeguards continue to maintain presence in water sites of the state so as to make sure that surfers and beach goers do not go near danger.
