As I blogged previous about, Folly Beach Council is getting closer to passing an ordinance that will charge visitors $1 per hour to park at beach access lots and at the “Washout.”

The final reading on the ordinance will be on April 24.

“Honor slot boxes” are currently being installed at the beach parking lots (at all beach-access right of ways adjacent to the beach & from 1409 E Ashley Ave to 1561 E Ashley Ave). The new boxes will take visitors’ money & a ticket will be printed out and must be displayed on the dashboard of cars. All boxes should be installed by May 1.

It will cost $1 per hour from 10 in the morning to 6:00 pm. After 6:00 pm, parking will be free. If you receive a parking ticket, it will be $20.

Folly Beach residents will receive 2 decals per household and will be exempt from paying to park if your car has a decal.

What will Folly Beach use the collected money for? They hope to improve parking areas, beach walkovers, improve police, trash and and Folly Beach’s Public Safety Department services.

On a side note, a grant from the Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management will be used to improve & renovate 4th Street at E. Arctic Avenue parking.
